The Ramayan serial, made under the direction of Ramanand Sagar, was aired on Doordarshan on January 25, 1987. A total of 78 episodes of this serial, which ran for more than one and a half years, were made, and its last episode came on July 31, 1988. This Ramayan serial produced by Ramanand Sagar used to air on Doordarshan every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. This serial was based on the ancient epic Ramayana in Hinduism, in which some excerpts were taken from Ramcharitmanas written by Tulsidas ji. Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana had a total of 78 episodes, with the duration of each episode being 35 minutes. Accordingly, the total time of the Ramayana serial was 2730 minutes, or 45.5 hours.
Ramanand Sagar gave a wonderful gift to the people of India in the form of the Ramayana in 1987. This is India's most popular television serial to date. Which no serial produced to date has been able to compete with. And after 1987, although many serials came out on Ramayana, no one could compete with Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana. This serial has left such an impact on the minds of the people of India that even today people remember Arun Govil as Lord Shri Ram, Deepika Chikhalia as Mata Sita, Sunil Lahiri as Laxman ji, and Dara Singh ji as Hanuman ji. The people of India remember every character of this serial by heart, and perhaps this is the reason why people did not accept any other serial as Ramayana.
Three or four years ago, every episode of the Ramayana serial was available online, and those episodes could be watched through YouTube or any other streaming platform. But at present, all the episodes of the Ramananda Sagar Ramayana have been removed from everywhere. Till last year, all the episodes could be streamed for free through the Vi Movies and TV App, but currently all the episodes have been removed from there as well. Apart from this, earlier these episodes of the Ramayana serial could be easily watched on ZEE5, Disney+, Hotstar, and Amazon Prime through subscription, but currently these episodes have been removed from there also.
The main reason for the removal of all the episodes of Ramananda Sagar Ramayana from all streaming platforms is streaming rights and copyright. Initially, all the licenses and streaming rights for Ramayana were with the creator and producer of this serial, Ramanand Sagar. But after his death in 2003, the rights to this serial came under family dispute. But in 2017, the Bombay High Court ruled in favor of Ramanand Sagar's son, Prem Sagar, and gave all the exclusive rights to this serial to Prem Sagar.
Being a copyright holder, Prem Sagar licensed the streaming rights of this serial to many platforms like Netflix, Disney Hotstar, Shemaroo TV, etc. Currently, Prasar Bharti Network has the rights to stream this serial on its channel Doordarshan, due to which this serial was published on Doordarshan for the second time during the Corona period. Due to different copyright owners, those episodes of the Ramayana serial that were publicly available on YouTube and elsewhere were removed. Because of this, no third party can stream them today.
As we told you earlier, the streaming rights of the Ramayana serial are only with Prem Sagar, but the streaming license was given by him to many platforms. But currently, all the episodes of the Ramayana serial are not on YouTube or any streaming platform, and where they were earlier, they have been removed. But now the question arises: how can all the iconic episodes of the Ramananda Sagar Ramayana be watched for free? You can watch these episodes in many ways, which we have explained step by step below.
