Struggle Story: From Failure to Success
The journey to become an IFS officer has been tough and frustrating for Raj Bahadur Singh Meena, a resident of Khuda Chainpur village in Nadauti tehsil of Karauli district.
Raj Bahadur never joined any private educational institution and completed his education from government schools, colleges and universities. He got his early education from the village itself and later joined (IIT KGP) for B.Tech.
After graduating from IIT Kharagpur, Rajbahadur decided to prepare for UPSC and work in the field of social service. After failure in his first attempt, he joined the Prime Minister's Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF) in the Ministry of Rural Development (Government of India) and worked with the district administration in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh for 3 years. Along with this, Raj Bahadur did his post graduation from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (TISS, Mumbai).
During this, he continued preparing for UPSC but did not get success. Along with this he also appeared in the interview for various exams like FCI Assistant General Manager (FCI AGM), NABARD Assistant Manager, ESIC Deputy Director etc. but could not reach the final success.
Meanwhile, he was also awarded UGC NET JRF [UGC-NET JRF] in subjects like Geography, Social Work and Environmental Science. After this, in the year 2020, he took admission in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi [JNU, New Delhi] for PhD [PhD].
Raj Bahadur Lost His Mother During UPSC Preparation:
He lost his mother due to illness during his UPSC preparation, which came as a huge blow to him and his family. Despite all these difficulties, he continued his dream journey and eventually secured All India Rank (AIR) 124th in UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination (IFS 2022) and became a part of All India Services. This success got him in his fourth interview for Indian Forest Service in UPSC.
To achieve success in a difficult exam like UPSC, continuous disappointment came in hand, but did not lose courage. But luck also has to bow before hard work. It has also been said in proverbs that 'struggle never goes in vain, because one day it definitely gets its fruit'.
