StoryHammir Dev Chauhan had fought many battles with the Delhi Sultanate. It is said that in 1299 AD, there was a war going on between Hammir Dev Chauhan and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi. Due to this war, keeping internal security in mind, Hammir Dev Chauhan had collected food and essential things in his fort. But due to the prolonged war, most of the goods in the warehouses were exhausted. Because of the war, there was no source of import from outside. Hammir Dev Chauhan, who was a great devotee of Lord Shri Ganesha, had a dream one night in which Lord Shri Ganesha appeared in his dream and said that tomorrow morning all the problems will end. Then in the morning, a three-eyed idol of Lord Shri Ganesha was found. And miraculously, the war also ended. And all the warehouses were also filled.

It is mentioned in ancient folk tales and Puranas that a Brahmin named Sudharma lived around the Devagiri Hills. His wife, Sudeha, did not have a child. Therefore, he got his younger sister, Ghushma, married to her husband. It is described that Ghushma was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, and as a result of her devotion, she had a son. Ghushma's elder sister, Sudeha, could not see this happiness in her sister. And this resulting jealousy of Sudeha led to the murder of Ghushma's newly married son.
